Delta’s co-founders, Ian Pollard and Craig Kirk, have a passion for the industry borne from having worked in it all their professional lives, both in New Zealand and offshore. With their accumulated knowledge and experience, they bring fresh thinking and new ideas to the industry.
Prior to founding Delta in April 2014, Ian worked for AIG for nearly 15 years and held a range of executive positions that have taken him from London to Hong Kong, Singapore, New York and Auckland. He was Worldwide Professional Liability Manager at Headquarters in New York with a portfolio of more than USD750m; and previously responsible for developing and growing AIG’s professional liability practice in China, the Far East, Southeast Asia, Middle East and South Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He most recently headed the Professional Liability Insurance business for Asia Pacific.
Prior to joining AIG, Ian worked for Marsh (Sedgwick) FINPRO in London. He is a graduate of Loughborough University, UK, where he earned an Honours Degree in Economics and Finance and is a Chartered Insurer and an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute. He is also a Member of the Institute of Directors (MInstD) and ANZIIF (SnrAssoc) CIP. Ian lectures, speaks and commentates regularly on particularly Professional Liability and Cyber Liability trends and exposures and has presented at industry events across the Asia Pacific including PLUS, Advisen, netdiligence, IBANZ and ANZIIF.
Craig has over 15 years’ experience underwriting and managing Financial Lines and Casualty portfolios throughout a number of international jurisdictions, including Australia, New Zealand, UK and Europe. He spent a number of years at AIG and held numerous senior roles there, most recently based in London as Professional Indemnity Manager for their Europe Region with a portfolio of circa USD400m. Most recently Craig was the national Liability Manager for Lumley General in New Zealand. Craig started his career as a Professional Indemnity Underwriter for Zurich in the UK.
Craig has a Master of Applied Finance and Investment, a Bachelor of Business and is a member of a number of professional bodies including ANZIIF and the NZ Institute of Directors. He is a regular speaker at industry events across a range of liability topics.
Andrew has 25 years experience in the insurance industry in a variety of underwriting, broking and executive positions primarily in the New Zealand Insurance market. During the ten years prior to joining Delta in September 2017, Andrew was Managing Director of DUAL New Zealand, and previously Head of London Placements for Offshore Market Placements. Both of these businesses were extensively involved with the Lloyd’s of London insurance market and Andrew was responsible for overall management of these businesses. Andrew’s area of expertise is Commercial Property Insurance and has managed significant portfolios in excess of $60M Premium, including during challenging times such as the Canterbury Earthquakes.
Dinesh has 12 years Liability and Financial Lines Insurance experience working for International Insurers and has worked with Public and Products Liability insurance for companies of all sizes and nature including construction, energy, complex risks and multinational programs. Dinesh has a Business degree specialising in Finance from Auckland University of Technology and believes in fresh thinking, efficient service and prides himself on his can-do attitude.
John has over 15 years specialist Liability, Financial Lines underwriting and portfolio management experience in the New Zealand Insurance market. Prior to Delta, with his management and senior underwriting responsibilities, he has created a strong reputation for innovation and service. John has been responsible for developing an array of innovative liability offerings and is regarded as a leading financial lines, professional indemnity and technology liability expert for companies of all sizes.
Petra has nearly 20 years’ experience in liability claims management. She spent a number of years as a litigation lawyer in the UK before moving into the London insurance market as a claims manager, handling professional liability risks and managing a claims team of up to 40 staff. Moving to New Zealand in 2008, she continued to develop her claims management expertise. Petra is passionate about claims service standards and helping clients improve their Risk Management.
Sharna has over 15 years’ experience in liability claims, having worked in senior liability claims roles in Australia and London prior to moving to New Zealand in 2003, where she continued in a senior liability claims role for an international insurer, handling professional liability risks. Sharna enjoys working with clients to ensure a smooth and stress free resolution to their claim.
James joined Delta Insurance in April 2016 as Wellington Branch Manager and Environmental Product Head. James responsibilities include helping develop the rapidly growing environmental insurance market across NZ as well as assisting in the growth of Delta’s current Wellington footprint. He brings a wealth of international experience developing Environmental Insurance products in London and the Asia Pacific markets. He was Vice President General Casualty at Allied World in Sydney with a focus on Environmental Liability in Australia as well as supporting Delta Insurance in New Zealand.
Prior to Allied World James held a number of positions at AIG Australia, most recently Regional Vice President for Asia-Pacific where he was responsible for product development, implementation of underwriting guidelines and developing the environmental liability book across 15 countries. James holds a BSc (Hons) in Applied Environmental Geology from the University of Portsmouth (UK).
Lynne’s responsibilities encompass many aspects of our business, including facilities management, AP/AR, billing, payroll and customer service and her incredible organisational skills keep our team and office running smoothly. Lynne brings a wealth of experience with her near 30 years in many different industries. She is technology driven and systems-orientated and is always looking for productivity improvements.
Karl has 12 years industry experience, with roles at several multinational brokerages dealing with a wide range of clients across the South Island, including sole traders, multinationals, listed companies and government departments. Karl has a Bachelor of Commerce and Management from Lincoln University majoring in Economics and Finance.
Karl enjoys the challenge of assisting brokers and their clients with putting together tailored liability coverage that suits their needs. Efficient local service and proactively finding a solution are his top priorities.
Amy works as an Underwriting Assistant and supports the underwriters with policy issuance and administration. She works closely with our Office Manager Lynne in keeping the office running smoothly. She has over 10 years’ administration experience in insurance and other sectors and is enjoying helping Delta grow into a thriving business.
Antonio has been with Delta for over a year and has recently been promoted to an Underwriter. He has a Commerce degree, specialising in Accounting and Finance from The University of Auckland Business School. Antonio’s role involves looking after the renewal portfolio and continuing to grow his new business opportunities. He is very determined and excited about building a successful career in insurance.
Jasper has joined us as our latest Graduate Trainee Underwriter. He has graduated from The University of Auckland with a Commerce degree where he majored in Accounting and Information Systems. Jasper’s role involves assisting the underwriters with renewals and new business and he is motivated to build the knowledge and skills to become a successful underwriter.
Akshay is currently finishing a Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Arts conjoint at the University of Auckland with majors in Accounting, Commercial Law and Statistics. He has worked at Delta as an Underwriting Assistant since 2014 and is looking forward to starting a fulltime role as a Graduate Trainee Underwriter upon completing graduation.
Tui works as an Administration Assistant and supports Lynne keeping the office working smoothly. She has over 10 years Administration experience. Tui will be managing premium payments and working closely with Brokers.

This is achieved by Lloyd’s syndicates delegating their underwriting authority to Coverholders.
