Delta is proud to sponsor the Te Atatu Maori Women’s Welfare League and Wahine Toa, a gala celebration to recognise the achievements of Dame June Mariu and Whaea Areta Koopu, both of whom are past Presidents and life members of the League.
Their commitment, leadership and mentoring has been an inspiration to everyone in the League. Current President Prue Kapua and many other Branch members joined us in the celebrations and the evening was indeed a night to remember.
The League was founded over 65 years ago and it is a unique and highly regarded organisation whose history and tikanga are held dear by all its members. The motto of the League is Tatau Tatau meaning “all of us together”. The Te Atatu branch has an ever growing membership of Maori women, wahine who are committed to the aspirations and goals of the League. The Branch has a critical role to play in enhancing the wellbeing of Maori women, girls and their whanau locally, regionally and nationally.
The Te Atatu Branch donates goods, produce and clothing and contributes to many community events, including the Te Atatu Spring Festival and partnering with Thrive & Unitec for two raranga wananga (workshops) where kete and wahakura were created. Wahine and mokopuna bonded through waiata, karakia, storytelling and much laughter.
