Meet Charlie, Liability Underwriter at Delta Insurance New Zealand, whose curiosity and love for variety have shaped a unique career journey.
Charlie is a born-and-raised Aucklander with a natural curiosity and enthusiasm for trying new things. It’s this mindset that led him to underwriting - a role he enjoys for its variety, where no two submissions or conversations are quite the same. Outside the office, he’s often making the most of the outdoors, whether mountain biking, swimming, or heading out on a hike.
Charlie began his insurance career in domestic sales and service while completing university studies. After graduating, Charlie joined a Graduate Program, gaining valuable insight into distribution - from building corporate partnerships to understanding the technical aspects of claims performance.
Seeking a new challenge, Charlie completed a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and spent a year teaching at an Intermediate school. The experience broadened his perspective and reinforced his ability to thrive in new environments. When he returned to insurance, he moved into roles across claims, processing, and underwriting support, where mentors encouraged him to pursue underwriting more formally.
Delta first caught Charlie’s attention for its agility, specialisation, and strong customer service - supported by values closely aligned with his own.
As Charlie settles in at Delta, he is looking forward to deepening his product knowledge, learning from new colleagues, and continuing to deliver excellent service. He’s especially excited to build expertise in PI, Cyber, and Product Recall.
