Delta Spotlight - Ron Curin
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and International Business, Ron Curin was pretty confident his future would probably land him in marketing. However, a fortuitous twist of fate unexpectedly placed him in the insurance business where he has thrived – and remained ever since.
Starting in administrative roles in the mid-1990s, Ron quickly showed a talent for underwriting which propelled him through the ranks with some of Australasia’s most recognised names, culminating in an 18-year stint with AIG where he rose to the position of National Manager underwriting Financial Lines and Casualty.
Ron loves insurance for its ever-changing nature, focus on people, and constant challenges. “Engaging with and understanding a range of industries is fascinating, providing varied insights on the attitude to and perceptions of risk. It’s a great way to expand your knowledge base. One day you’re underwriting a food processing plant, the next an offshore oil and gas platform,” he quips.
Variety is the spice of life, and the continuous and evolving challenges and situations presented in insurance keeps him coming back for more. “Sure, we’ve seen a lot of technology come into the industry. But at the end of the day, it’s about building relationships, engaging, and understanding you are here to make a difference.”
Ron knew of Delta’s stellar reputation already and when the opportunity arose and having worked with our founders before, he jumped. “Being part of an agile, nimble company is a new and exciting challenge. Delta is a disruptor looking to carve out a niche, and I’m here to help make that happen.”
Rons main focus centers on nurturing Delta Insurance's Crisis Management segment. He’s particularly excited about bringing Product Recall coverage to manufacturers and food producers, recognising substantial potential in this underserved market. With well-established broker relationships across NZ, Curin also has his sights set on expanding Delta's corporate portfolio.
While the kids have grown and largely flown the nest, Ron enjoys sports as an umpire and coach, hits the gym from time to time, enjoys home cooking and is often seen walking his two dogs.
